Blog Reads: Travel hacks, life hacks and DIY hacks

The observant readers among you may have noticed that I’ve changed this feature from Weekend Reads to Blog Reads. I should have realised that no one would read a post entitled ‘Weekend Reads’ on a Monday. Silly me.

Anyways, this weeks Blog Reads are all about hacks. With a blog name like ‘The Travel Hack’ is really is about time that I start sharing more of my own travel hacks so here are some of my favourites from around the web to warm you up.

Enjoy!

And if you have any more hacks you’d like to share, please pop them in the comments below. Links to your own posts are more than welcome.

Travel HacksTravel Hacks {Lifehacker}

I’ve been scouring the internet for real, genuine travel hacks and this is the best collection I’ve found. There are so many useful articles and tips here. Did you know that you should book at flight 45 days in advance on a Wednesday at 1am?

Other sites seem to think that ‘rolling your clothes rather than folding them’ is a travel hack. It isn’t. That’s just common sense.

London life hacks20 London Lifehacks {Time Out}

Life in London is tough but these lifehacks can make living in the Big Smoke that little bit easier. Here are some hacks on how to save money on travel, how to eat and drink for cheap (or free), how to keep foxes out of your garden and, my personal favourite, how to get slow walkers out of your way.

DIY travel hacks DIY Packing Hacks that will change how you pack forever {Huffington Post}

Some of these are stupid (who has the time or can be arsed to refill toothpaste tubes!?) but some of them are really cool. I now always take hotel shower caps to cover my dirty shoes.

DIY hacksDIY IKEA hacks {Scrap Hacker}

I would love to fill my home with antique furniture and vintage finds that I’ve discovered and flea-markets and lovingly restored. But realistically, my house is filled with cheap IKEA basics. The worst thing is that all of my friends have the exact same furniture in their homes so each room is replica of each others. This is why I love the Ikea hacks on Scrap Hacker as there are some simple ways to customise or completely change those IKEA basics that we all have and hate.

Thanks for the tips, I could definitely use some packing tips seeing as I may have purchased a backpack just a teeny bit too small :/

What a cool selection! I love the novelty and creativity of some of these suggestions. You've provided a great list to investigate. I could be lost in hours of reading now.
