Weekend Reads #19

Weekend Reads #19

Welcome to the first Weekend Reads of 2016!

It’s been a big and busy week in the blogosphere. The first week of the year sees bloggers sticking to their New Year’s resolutions and posting more so there’s a lot for us to read!

And please tell me I’m not the only one who has spent nearly every evening this week sat on my sofa in PJs, iPad in hand and latest boxset on the TV. I’ve given up on those unrealistic resolutions to go to the gym in January, that just isn’t going to happen!

Here’s what I’ve been reading this week…

2016 Reading List

It’s been a long time since I’ve bought a good old fashioned paperback book but these books mentioned by Brooke are tempting me! She’s mentioned a lot of homey books about living a self sufficient lifestyle and generally making your home look cosy and gorgeous – something I’m aiming to do now that we’ve finally finished our house!

This was about the millionth time that a blogger has recommended Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert so I’ve finally downloaded it. I’ve also read a lot about the tidying up book. Part of me thinks, how the hell can a book about tidying up be so life changing? But another part of me is intrigued. It’s on the Amazon wish list. Let me know if you’ve read it!

Travel inspiration for 2016

Screen Shot 2016-01-08 at 11.26.13Kate’s Picks: Where to travel in 2016 before it’s too late {Adventurous Kate}

I don’t ever think it’s going to be too late to visit any of these places but there are some great suggestions here. You might finish reading this post with that, ‘Damn, I just want to go everywhere!!’ kind of feeling. The Faroe Islands are definitely on my list for this year.

I’m so happy to see Wales in here at number 8! Albania and Romania are too other places on this list that have caught my attention. These seem like the kind of places to go before everyone else realises how amazing they are.

Screen Shot 2016-01-08 at 22.44.01Best Moustashe Destinations for 2016 {Lonely Planet}

I love Lonely Planet and I love them even more for putting together a guide for the best moustashe destinations this year. Check out their other ‘Best in Travel’ themes for some serious 2016 inspiration.

Other stuff I loved

Screen Shot 2016-01-08 at 11.30.33Hogwarts in the Snow {Elle Croft – A Bird in the Hand}

Any Potter fans out there? You need to read this ASAP and, like Elle, you’ll be squealing with delight too. For some reason, anything related to Harry Potter turns me into a giggling, excited 11 year old and just reading this post had that effect on me! I was actually meant to go to this with Elle but something came up that made me miss it and now I’m so sad that I did. She even met Nadia from GBBO!!

Screen Shot 2016-01-08 at 22.43.39Why you should read Gurgle Magazine this month {Gurgle}

No.3, no.3!! Yey, I’m so excited to have been featured in Gurgle magazine this month. I had a chat with them a few months ago about travelling with George, the places we love and the products we always take with is. They’ve turned this into a feature with other travel bloggers to create some top tips for travelling with tots. Gurgle is the only ‘mummy magazine’ I read so I’m really excited to be in it.

Julie has a fabulous way of making London look beautiful. London is beautiful and it would be even more beautiful if everyone lived in a house like this. Unfortunately, most people live in ex-council flats, ugly house shares or shiny, modern flats that aren’t nearly as pretty as these houses.

One for the bloggers

Screen Shot 2016-01-08 at 11.30.14You don’t need to be one dimensional to be successful {Pack your Passport}

While I don’t 100% agree with everything in this post, I do agree with pretty much 95% of it! I’m seeing a big shift in blogger’s attitudes at the moment. Maybe it’s since the whole ‘I’m quitting social media’ thing and ‘Instagram lives are fake!’ but there’s going to be a lot more honesty and personality in blogs for 2016. Hoorah for fewer listacles and woohoo for more personal posts!

That tidying up book is haunting me. I think I need to get it (she says, as she is surrounded by a pile of washing and shoes)... Thanks for including my Harry Potter post - I was SO sad you couldn't make it. We'll just have to plan a trip to go together one of these days!

I haven't bought the tidying up book because I genuinely hope it will change my life and I really don't want to be disappointed! Yes - we definitely need a good trip together. Although I don't know if anything would top Harry Potter in the snow :(
