Weekend Reads #7

Eeek, this is very exciting. My friend and blogging buddy, Jayne Gorman, has revamped her blog, 40 Before 30, and given it a whole new look, feel and name. Jayne was on a mission to visit 40 countries before she was 30 but when she reached this number what was she going to do!?

Jayne’s new site looks gorgeous and she’s integrating posts from her business and blogging life as well as her new life in Sydney. Check it out for travel, food, Sydney and blogging tips.

What I Instagrammed Vs What really happened {Bustle}

This is a particularly good read for anyone who follows fashion bloggers and thinks, ‘why isn’t my life that beautiful and perfect?’ Guess what, no ones life is beautiful and perfect and who really has time to Instagram when they’re having THAT much fun? Social media can be both fabulous but dangerous in that it’s a place where we share the best parts of our lives but can lead to negative comparisons and competitive awesomeness.

Britain on Instagram Vs Britain in Real Life {BuzzFeed}

If you don’t believe me about Instagram portraying an unrealistic ideal, you need to read this post. If you’ve ever been attacked by a seaside seagull, you’ll get this.

I wish I’d read this when I first started getting into photography. But not just skimmed it and though, ‘that’s a good idea’. Actually read it and study it and take it all in. It’s so much easier if you do that in the first place rather from years and years of trial and error. Although trial and error works too!

The Changing Business of a Blog {Oh Joy!}

There’s no doubt about it that blogging has changed over the past few years and I’m sure it will continue to grow and evolve just as quickly. It’s great to read about this from someone who has been blogging for almost 9 to see how it has changed for them.

Pho (Vietnamese Beef Noodle Soup) {Foodie with Family}

Pho fans, listen up, there is some serious pho food porn going on here and this looks like the most incredible recipe ever. I’m actually drooling while reading this recipe and I love the helpful tips such as freezing your beef slightly before you slice it to make it easier to cut so thinly. Nom. Nom. Nom. That’s all I can say.

Weekly Hacks

It’s nice to see a ‘hacks’ post that actually has some original ideas I’d actually use. I particularly like no.14 – search ‘unsubscribe’ in your inbox to quickly see (and delete) all marketing email. Genius.

Book of the Week

This week I’ve been reading an e-Book from a fellow blogger, Jetsetter Jess. Jess has written a book called Happier Than A Pug, Freer Than A Millionaire: A Modern Woman’s Guide to Traveling Solo and Loving It! It’s an inspiring book to give women the courage to travel alone. It’s about overcoming your fears, realistically assessing any dangers and giving yourself a kick up the bum with lots of motivation to get out there and travel. If you’re thinking about going travelling but you’re not sure you’ve got the confidence to do it or you’d like to hear from a female who has travelled alone then this is the book for you.

  1. Thanks for the mention Mon! I also loved that post on Instagram versus Reality – i’m def the one looking a fool behind the scenes just to get a good shot!

    1. Same here. Or for doing the opposite and wondering why my #latterart doesn’t look as nice others and then realising it’s because I’m not stood on a chair at a weird angle and trying it on every possible table in the cafe!

  2. Great roundup! I love the blog title Girl Tweets World! Very clever. I also definitely need some quick tips on how to be a better photographer! I always have blog photo envy!
