Join The Travel Hack Team and come to Canada!

Applications to join The Travel Hack team are now closed. Thank you so much to everyone who applied. I will be contacting everyone before July 8th.

If you applied via the Google form below then I will have definitely received your application.

After last week’s announcement that I’m expecting my second baby I’m sure it’ll come as no shock I’m going to need a little bit of help around here. OK, maybe a lot of help!

You guys are going to be seeing a little more from Elle but I’ll also be taking on an intern/assistant to join The Travel Hack team. This is a position ideally suited to a new blogger or a student looking for a leg-up on the blogging ladder.

Over the past few months The Travel Hack has gone from strength to strength and has grown faster than I could have possibly imagined. Pageviews are through the roof and I’ve had so many awesome offers and opportunities to work with brands I love that I just can’t keep up!

I have almost 400,000 social media followers, I’m invited on about 10 different press trips each week and I receive hundreds of emails each day.

It’s a great situation to be in but I could really do with a pair of helping hands/eyes/ears/taste buds around here!

So it’s time to take on an intern.

While I was training to be a journalist I did more than my fair share of internships. I did some good ones and some bad ones, some where I learned a lot and some where I learned nothing more than how to make a good cuppa. (I do now make an awesome cuppa if I can say so myself. Great life skill but not something our intern will be doing!)

I’ll be taking everything I learned from all of my internships to ensure whoever we take on gets the best experience possible. I want this to be a fantastic opportunity for a budding blogger who wants a fast-track learning opportunity. This is your chance to see how to run a top travel blog, how to earn money from a blog, how to increase pageviews and social media followings and how to review products, destinations and experiences.

Not only that but I want it to be a hell of a lot of fun! Travel blogging is the best job ever – we get to travel the world and experience the best each country has to offer.

Which is why our new intern will be joining Elle and I as we travel to Edmonton in Canada for one week!! Yes, that’s right, you’d be beginning the internship with a press trip to Canada.

We’ll be travelling to Canada from London and the provisional dates will be July 21-27th 2016.

I’ll be telling you more about the trip soon but today I’d like to focus on the internship.

Our new intern will also have full access to The Blogger Course – the 12 week course I’ve launched and will be starting on July 4th.

Not only that but you will be paid for your time and efforts and as you grow you’ll be taking on more responsibilities and higher paid projects. I really want this to be a long-term opportunity for the perfect candidate to grow as a blogger but also grow into The Travel Hack Team as this blog continues to expand.

Internship duties will include:

  • Writing and researching blog posts
  • Editing and formatting blog posts in WordPress
  • Editing photos
  • Scheduling social media updates
  • Updating the weekly newsletter
  • Product reviews

The internship will begin with these tasks but responsibilities will increase with time to include attending events and there’s potential for the right candidate to take my place on press trips around the world.

The ideal candidate must be:

  • Able to commit to 1 day per week or 8 hours per week
  • Able to commit to a weekly Skype chat
  • Perfect English – both written and spoken
  • Ideally first language English or someone who uses English on a daily basis
  • UK based – preferably London but this isn’t essential if you’re able to easily reach London
  • Nice, friendly, professional, hard working and have a love for travel– This is absolutely crucial and personality is much more important than skills here
  • Able to follow a brief
  • Also be creative and come up with interesting, original and engaging article ideas
  • Familiarity with WordPress
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Must have a blog (not necessarily a travel blog)
  • Must be a whizz at social media
  • Excellent photography skills – preferably with your own DSLR
  • Photo editing skills plus access to editing software
  • Experience with internet research

The newly appointed intern will have a variety of responsibilities and in the future I’d hope you’d be attending press trips and events on my behalf. The press trips can be anywhere in the world and often organised at short notice so a flexible lifestyle is a bonus for all applicants.

You will work from home using your own equipment. We will catch up as regularly as possible and we will have a weekly Skype chat to talk about your tasks.

Applications close on June 30th. The first round of interviews will take place via Skype and the second round will take place in London in early July.

Questions?

What if I can’t make the trip to Canada?

If you can’t make the Canada trip then please still do apply! It would be a shame to miss it but I don’t want this to stop the perfect applicant from applying.

Do I have to be UK based?

Yes.

What if I have a full time job?

If you work full time that’s absolutely fine as I’m happy to be flexible with timings (I work some funny hours myself) but it would mean you’d miss out on most of the benefits of this internship, such as the possibility of taking my place on press trips. Press trips are usually arranged at the last minute but sometimes we’ll get 6-8 weeks notice so they can be worked around a full time job.

What if my English isn’t great?

I’m sorry, one of the main duties will be writing and editing so perfect English is a must.

What if I’m a total newbie to blogging?

That’s fine! I’ll be teaching you everything you need to know – you’ll just need to know the basics of blogging, how to use WordPress, familiarity with other travel blogs and experience using all social media channels.

I’m not a travel blogger, is this OK?

Yes, that’s fine if you blog about a different niche but I would like to see some elements of travel within your blog.

What if I’m older than a ‘typical intern’?

Our average reader is aged 21-35 so I’d ideally be looking for someone within that age bracket but there is no age limit.

What if I don’t live in/near London?

I’m ideally looking for someone who can easily commute to London for events, flights and get-togethers. You don’t need to live in London but it would help if you can get to London fairly easily.

What is the pay?

Pay is dependent on experience. For example, if you have experience working with brands, taking press trips, organising campaigns and producing high quality content then there’s no reason why you can’t be working on paid projects immediately. If you’re newer to the blogging game then we’ll start with smaller tasks that inevitably come with a smaller price tag.

If you have less experience then that’s totally fine as I will be training you up to take on the bigger projects eventually.

If you have any questions please leave them in the comments below or email me: [email protected]

Congrats on baby #2!

If you ever make it to Toronto, the travel bloggers here will be happy to show you around. I was a bit jealous that my friend Solmaz met you in Montana.
