There’s so much more to the Canary Islands

There’s so much more to the Canary Islands

The Canary Islands are one of those destinations we Brits take for granted. ‘Canary Islands’ may conjure up images of cheap and cheerful package holidays but there’s so much more! Now we all love these gloriously relaxing holidays but today I want to share a couple of gorgeous videos from the Canary Islands that prove there’s a lot to these beautiful islands.

I’ve been to the Canary Islands 8 times and I’ve discovered something different each time I’ve been. My last trip was to Fuerteventura for a yoga retreat. The yoga was great and the retreat was idyllically relaxing but the island itself really stole the show. I loved taking long walks along the windy beaches and walking through the volcanic landscape. It was a million miles from the ‘flop ‘n drop’ package holiday I’d taken to Gran Canaria in my teens.

There have been 21 fun little videos made on the Canary Islands that show the beauty, diversity and uniqueness of the islands. I’ve chosen a couple of my favourite videos to share with you today.

El Hierro – The world’s first sustainable island

Not only is this an incredible example of renewable energy and creating a sustainable island but it also shows how rugged and beautiful El Hierro is.

El Hierro – The end of the earth

Another gorgeous one from El Hierro. Did you know that this little island was once thought to be the end of the world?

Why we all need some sunshine!

The Canary Islands are blessed with year-round sunshine and high temperatures which is why it’s such a popular destination for winter sun holidays. If you need some convincing that a winter sun holiday is a necessity for those of us who spend the winter in hibernation, you need to check this video out! It’s all about the benefits of sunshine and from this video you can see why the sun makes us so happy.

What do you think? Have any of these videos from the Canary Islands surprised you?
