18 photos that will make you want to visit the Maldives immediately

A lot of people dislike digital photography because we have a habit of taking photos, uploading them to our laptops and then never looking at them again. They sit in their well-organised folders, gathering virtual dust, never to be seen again.

Sound familiar?

This happens with some of my photos – but there are a few of those organised folders that never gather dust. Some of them I open up and happily scroll through whenever I’m feeling nostalgic. Weddings, birthdays and George’s first few months are the ones that get the most action…. but there’s one folder that is practically gleaming it’s opened so often.

This folder is my photos from the Maldives.

My blogger friend, Jayne from Girl Tweets World, has just returned from her honeymoon in the Maldives and it looked more incredible than I can put into words (so you’ll have to check it out to see!) While she was out there my Facebook feed was filled with impossibly perfect pictures that I would have thought were Photoshopped if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes.

Yes, the water really is that blue.

Yes, the sand really is that white.

Yes, the water villas are that perfect.

While I was in the Maldives I really felt like I’d stepped inside a holiday brochure. And as someone who has read A LOT of holiday brochures and been sadly disappointed on several occasions (editing tools + 5am photo shoots + wide angle lenses can make any beach look good!) I mean that as the highest compliment.

After seeing Jayne’s honeymoon pictures I spent far too much time scrolling wistfully through all of my Maldives photos.

“Look how gorgeous the beach was, Sam,” I’d say as I shoved my laptop under his nose. “Mmm, and the food was so good. And do you remember that time we saw dolphins? Look, look, a photo of a dolphin!”

Sam usually humours me when I do this but with our Maldives photos he joined in eagerly.

“Find the photos of our villa!” he says. “And let’s watch my videos from scuba diving!”

And this is pretty much how we spend our evenings. Rock and roll.

We both agreed that the Maldives was one of our best holidays ever. It was worth the long flight with a 6 month old baby, worth the expense (because let’s be honest, it isn’t cheap) and worth the fact that we’ll compare every single beach holiday to our week in the Maldives – and I have a feeling nothing will live up to our new standards.

So without further ado, here are 18 photos that will make you want to visit the Maldives immediately.

Enjoy.

The holiday low-down

I flew to Male with Turkish Airlines. I departed from Birmingham with a 3-hour layover in Istanbul – a good choice if you’re travelling with little ones!

I stayed at Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu for 6 nights in a Deluxe Villa on a full board basis.

Massive thanks to Visit Maldives for helping to organise my trip.

Love the turtle photo! My husband and I fondly look at our honeymoon Maldives pics and often compare other holidays to that and there truly is no comparison.

Meh, it only takes one photo (or just hearing about it), to make me want to go to the Maldives. I've been wanting to go for ages, but I need to save up..
