Revealing the best hostel in the UK!

I’m very excited today to announce the hostel voted as the best hostel in the UK by LateRoom’s Simply the Guest Awards.

Simply the Guest is the annual awards from LateRooms.com. They use the 1.5 million guest reviews and ratings published on the site to recognise the highest standards in the hotel industry. Reviews can only be left by guests who have booked with LateRooms.com and stayed at the hotel or hostel so you know they’re genuine. It’s actually the only industry accolade based entirely on genuine guest reviews!

This year there 25 categories in the awards reflecting some of the UK’s most popular types of British getaways, including best B&B, Beach Hotel, Family Friendly Hotel, Historic Hotel, Hostel and Luxury Hotel. This year also included six new categories for hotels with special features, such as Best View, Best Rooftop Bar and Best Pool.

But today I’m going to be talking about the best hostel in the UK.

Can we get a drum roll please….

The best hostel in the UK according to LateRoom’s Simply the Guest Awards is the YHA Cardiff Central!

The YHA Cardiff Central is a 5 Star Visit Wales hostel and is perfectly located between the city centre and Cardiff Bay. There are dorm rooms and private rooms available and all rooms have en-suite. It’s one of those places that blurs the lines between hostels and hotels but still has those friendly and welcoming social spaces that travellers seek out in hostels.

It’s the social spaces that really make a hostel special because without these they’re just budget hotels. The YHA Cardiff Central has large, welcoming and quirkily decorated social spaces where you just know you’d meet travel buddies or someone to drink a beer with while you share travel stories.

Take a look at the photos and you’ll see how cool and quirky it is. And rooms start from just £49 per night!

The other finalists in the Best Hostel category included:

  • Hatters Liverpool
  • Euro Hostel Newcastle
  • Mor Lodge, Newquay (and last year’s winner)
  • Restup London
  • Tartan Lodge, Glasgow
  • YHA Bath
  • Bank Street Lodge, Fort William
  • Bangor University Accommodation
  • Westfield Lodge, Liverpool

Congratulations to YHA Cardiff Central for a very well earned award.

Have you stayed in any of these hostels or do you have a favourite hostel in the UK?

  1. Thanks for the post!! Hostels in the U.K. are definitely on the up!! I will be sure to stay here next time I’m in Cardiff (although I’ve noticed the city has a lot of great hostels).
