It seems I’m not alone as it’s quickly becoming one of the world’s most popular cities as everyone discovers what an incredible place this is. Not only is Budapest a beautiful city with loads to see and do, a great foodie scene and fantastic summer weather, but it’s also really affordable!
In fact, Budapest is one of the cheapest cities in Europe for a weekend break so it’s great for a budget escape.
There are loads of cheap places to stay in Budapest, from 5-star luxury spa hotels, to cheap and cheerful hostel dorms. If you’re the kind of traveller who loves a bargain and a cheap weekend away, here are some of the best cheap places to stay in Budapest.
Airbnb – Our Place apartment
A large apartment just 10 minutes from the city centre and sleeping up to four guests, Our Place is fantastic and very cheap place to stay in Budapest! You’ll get all of the comfort and cleanliness, and far greater space, than you’d expect from a quality hotel. You’ll enjoy your very own kitchen here, as well as a washing machine which means you can throw out some extra clothes and pack light for once! You’ll find a big shopping mall just 5 minutes’ walk away, while the vibrant Raday Street with its bars and shops is around 15 minutes away on foot.

Treestyle Hostel
Hostels are a fantastic option if you’re hunting for cheap places to stay in Budapest, and one of the best for value in the city is Treehouse Hostel. The hostel can be found in the heart of the city and is known for its eco-friendly philosophies, as well as its cleanliness, free Wi-Fi and close proximity to the main metro lines. The hostel offers private rooms and several dormitory options.

Paprika Hostel 2
Another great cheap hostel in Budapest is Paprika Hostel 2. Located just a few minutes’ walk from Octogon and just a couple of doors down from one of the city’s most famous ruin pubs, Instant. The hostel itself is suited to those travellers who like to embrace a vibrant party atmosphere during their city breaks, even boasting a bar beneath the hostel building. The hostel dorms are recently refurbished and have some of the comfiest beds in Budapest (apparently!)

You’ll struggle to find another three-star hotel in Budapest that boasts the great value of Hotel Papillon, located on the Buda side of the Danube and parallel to the scenic bliss of Margaret Island. While its location outside of the centre of Budapest may not appeal to some, Passzió Panzió has great nearby transportation links into the heart of the city, and you’ll find that you get much more for your money here on the outskirts. You’ll also enjoy free breakfast, free Wi-Fi and the opportunity to book tours of Budapest with the hotel, and all at a very reasonable price.

Airbnb presents another good option for those looking to cut their costs during a break in Budapest. It isn’t the most luxurious but at £17 a night, who are we to complain!?
