Reviewing The CurrentBody Series 2 LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask

CurrentBody Series 2 LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know I’m a little obsessed with skincare gadgets. I love anything that promises healthier skin without needing to book appointments or spend hours in a clinic.

As someone who travels a lot, I’m always looking for treatments I can do at home…or in a hotel room. I travel so often I find it hard to commit to appointments, so any at-home gadget is a winner!

And while skincare might not have anything to do with travelling, it also kind of does. Frequent travel, flying, disrupted routines, lots of sun exposure and long days cause havoc with my skin. It’s not only that but when I’m travelling and taking photos, I want to look my best and things like red light masks make that easier!

When I got my hands on the CurrentBody Series 2 LED Light Therapy Face Mask, I was excited to see if it lived up to the hype. I’d seen it all over social media and I’m already a big fan of LED red light masks. I’ve seen that with consistent use they really do make a difference to my skin. But they’re definitely an investment. So is this one worth the money?

After spending plenty of time researching the technology and incorporating it into my skincare routine, here’s my honest review.

What is the CurrentBody Series 2 LED Light Therapy Face Mask?

CurrentBody Series 2 LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask

The CurrentBody Series 2 LED Light Therapy Face Mask is an at-home LED device designed to improve your skin using clinically proven wavelengths of light.

LED therapy works by exposing your skin to specific wavelengths of light that penetrate beneath the surface. The idea is that these wavelengths stimulate natural processes within your skin, encouraging collagen production, reducing inflammation and improving overall skin health. Some of them claim to improve the appearance of fine lines too.

The masks are expensive, but on the flip side, they don’t rely on expensive creams or serums, so you could argue it’s a better use of your money.

The Series 2 is an upgrade from the original CurrentBody mask and features more LEDs, improved coverage and enhanced flexibility so it fits the contours of your face more comfortably.

Like all LED masks, it looks slightly futuristic (OK, you look like something from a horror film!) but once you’ve used it a few times it simply becomes another part of your skincare routine. My kids were kind of terrified of these masks at first but now they’re completely used to seeing me wear one!

What does LED light therapy actually do?

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. Different colours of light have different benefits, but red and near-infrared light are the stars of the show when it comes to anti-ageing.

The CurrentBody Series 2 combines:

  • Red light to stimulate collagen production and improve skin firmness.
  • Near-infrared light to penetrate deeper into the skin and support repair.
  • Deep near-infrared wavelengths for enhanced rejuvenation.

Regular use may help to:

  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Improve skin texture.
  • Increase skin firmness.
  • Even out skin tone.
  • Calm redness.
  • Leave your skin looking brighter and healthier overall.

It’s important to remember that this isn’t an overnight miracle treatment. Like most good skincare, consistency is everything.

What’s new with the Series 2?

If you’re wondering whether it’s worth upgrading from the original CurrentBody mask, there are a few noticeable improvements.

The mask contains more LED bulbs, meaning there’s better coverage across your face. CurrentBody also says the flexible silicone design allows the mask to sit closer to your skin, helping the light reach every area more effectively.

It’s lightweight, comfortable to wear and feels less bulky than some of the rigid plastic masks on the market. I’ve actually never had a rigid mask but friends have told me they don’t use them because they’re not comfortable to wear.

My experience using the mask

I’ve already built a solid evening skincare routine which involves using an LED mask. I use it most weeknight evenings when I’m at home. If I’m travelling for more than 4 days I’ll take it with me.

The treatment takes just 10 minutes. I usually use it after an evening shower when I’ve cleansed my face. I pop it on and relax for 10 minutes; sometimes watching TV or reading or just scrolling!

That’s one of the biggest advantages of LED therapy over treatments that require lots of products or complicated routines. You don’t really have to think about it. It fits easily into my day and that’s what makes consistency achievable.

One thing I would say is that I need to be sat down or lying down to use this mask. For me, it feels like it slips off and doesn’t sit 100% comfortably on my face. It’s fine if I’m just sat there watching TV but I couldn’t comfortably get up and walk around. It feels like the straps just aren’t in the right place and despite me readjusting them numerous times, it’s never quite right.

Does it actually work?

This is obviously the big question.

The improvements with LED therapy are subtle rather than dramatic. If you’re expecting to look 10 years younger after a week then you’ll probably be disappointed.

What I’ve noticed is that my skin looks healthier overall. It feels smoother and firmer, appears brighter and has a fresher glow that isn’t always easy to achieve with skincare products alone.

I’ve also found my skin seems calmer, particularly during periods when I’m stressed or travelling a lot. Frequent flights, changing climates, hormone changes and disrupted routines usually play havoc with my skin, so anything that helps keep it balanced is a huge plus.

If I don’t use it for a couple of weeks I will get the odd spot. But as soon as I start using it again they’ll clear up. If I use the mask consistently I don’t get any spots at all.

The biggest thing that makes me think it really does work is that I notice when I haven’t used it for a week! My skin looks visibly duller, I may have a spot or two and generally look like I need a good night’s sleep and like I could do with eating some vegetables! I really see that difference which is why I try to not go more than 3-4 days without using the mask. If I’m travelling for more than 4 days I’ll take it with me.

What I like most

The biggest selling point is convenience.

You don’t need appointments or expensive clinic visits. Once you’ve bought the mask, you can use it from the comfort of your own home whenever it suits you.

I also love that it’s completely pain free. It’s actually really relaxing to just sit there quietly and do nothing. There’s something quite mindful about it. Those 10 minutes become a nice excuse to slow down for a moment.

There’s no downtime, no redness afterwards and no recovery period. You simply finish your session and carry on with your day. Or, if you’re like me, go to sleep!

Are there any downsides?

CurrentBody Series 2 LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask

The only downside is the price. This isn’t a budget skincare purchase and it can feel like a big investment when it’s unlikely you’ll see any instant results.

LED therapy really rewards consistency. If you’re using it once a week then it’s not going to make a huge difference. Use it everyday for a month and you’ll really see it!

You’ll also still need a good skincare routine. This isn’t a replacement for cleansing, moisturising, SPF or healthy habits BUT I do think an LED mask has made a bigger difference to my skin than any lotion or serum I’ve ever tried.

Is it worth the money?

CurrentBody Series 2 LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask

I 100% think it’s worth the money.

If you’re already spending money on quality skincare, facials or anti-ageing treatments, this feels like something that complements those rather than replacing them.

Over time, the cost per treatment becomes surprisingly reasonable compared to booking regular salon appointments.

If you’re looking for dramatic cosmetic changes then this probably isn’t the product for you.

But if your goal is healthier skin, improved texture and supporting your skin as you get older, I think it’s an excellent investment.

How does it compare to the JOVS 4D laser light?

JOVS 4D Laser Light Therapy Mask Review

My first red light therapy mask was the JOVS 4D laser light which I’ve been using for years. How does the CurrentBody Series 2 compare?

The JOVS mask is currently £675, making it almost double the price of the Current Body Series 2. And, honestly, yes you can tell it’s a more expensive product. The silicone mask is much softer, more flexible and comfortable to wear. It stays in place better and is just a more comfortable experience. And because it’s a more comfortable experience I do find that I use it more often and I reach for the JOVS mask over the CurrentBody mask.

But does it lead to better results?

The truth is that I think they perform the same and I haven’t noticed visibly better results between the two masks. After long term use, both masks lead to an instant glow and when I’m using regularly I don’t get any spots at all.

So I’d say the more affordable CurrentBody Series 2 is just as effective. If you’ve got money to burn then go for the JOVS 4D mask because it really is a more comfortable mask to wear, but as I only wear it for about 15 minutes and I lie down to wear it anyway, I’d be just as happy with the CurrentBody option.

Who is it best for?

CurrentBody Series 2 LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask

I think this mask is ideal if you:

  • Want to improve fine lines naturally.
  • Happy to spend £400 but wouldn’t go over this budget.
  • Prefer investing in skincare rather than makeup.
  • Like treatments you can do at home.
  • Travel frequently and want something portable.
  • Are happy to commit to regular use.
  • Happy that this isn’t an instant fix and more of a long term investment for your skin.

It’s probably less suitable if you’re looking for immediate results or know you’re unlikely to stick to using it several times each week.

My top tips for getting the best results

CurrentBody Series 2 LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask

I’ve found a few simple habits make all the difference.

Use the mask on clean, dry skin before applying your skincare products.

Be consistent. It’s much better to use it regularly than to do lots of sessions one week and then forget about it.

Take photos every month. Because the changes happen gradually, it’s easy to forget what your skin looked like before.

Keep wearing SPF every single day. Protecting the collagen you already have is just as important as encouraging your skin to produce more. I also try to have a collagen drink before bed each night too.

Final thoughts

No products found.

I genuinely think the CurrentBody Series 2 LED Light Therapy Face Mask is a great option for a red light mask in this price bracket.

Yes, there are masks that are more comfortable to wear but they’re double the price so it would be a personal choice as to whether or not they’re worth it.

It’s easy to use and backed by solid research into the benefits of red and near-infrared light therapy. It isn’t a miracle cure, but very few skincare products are.

It leaves my skin with a healthy glow, it feels super soft and there’s a firmness to my skin that I don’t get from any skincare products.

For me, it’s about investing in my skin for the long term. Just like eating well, exercising or wearing SPF, the benefits come from the cumulative effect of making good choices over time.

If you’re someone who enjoys skincare, likes investing in high-quality beauty technology and wants professional-style treatments without leaving the house, I think the CurrentBody Series 2 is definitely worth considering.

I’ve created a relaxing and enjoyable routine around using my mask and I really love using it. I don’t like to go more than 4 days without using my mask and when I do skip uses I really see the difference in my skin.

It has become one of those products I actually use rather than one that sits in a cupboard gathering dust, and for me that’s always the biggest sign that something is worth recommending.
