Snapshots from Gothenburg

Snapshots from Gothenburg

This weekend I travelled to Gothenburg, Sweden’s second city and the home of Scandinavia’s largest Christmas market.

Gothenburg is a small city so it’s perfect for a weekend away. There’s lots to see and do but not so much that you feel overwhelmed or like you can’t possibly see everything. I loved the quaint charm of Gothenburg, the cool places to eat and drink and also the unexpected hipster vibe.

I realised that most ‘second cities’  actually have this cool and creative vibe as they’re not as big and expensive as the country’s capital. There are lots of boutique shops and little bars and cafes tucked away in unexpected places.

Gothenburg’s shopping scene is  a-mazing. After living in London I find most cities to be pretty disappointing when it comes to shopping but Gothenburg (despite being tiny in comparison) didn’t disappoint. I went a bit nuts in the vintage shops and hopefully brought some Scandi style home with me.

The festive atmosphere in Gothenburg was the main reason we visited. I’ve been to Sweden at Christmas before and I loved how traditional and beautiful it is. Christmas markets in the UK feel so commercial and tacky but in Sweden they’re more authentic and much prettier.

I’m currently editing a video and writing all about my trip so for now I’ll leave you with some quick snapshots from the city to whet your whistle. More posts coming soon…

for some reason I've been thinking a lot about Gothenburg as it seems like a cool city. I didn't know much about it, I couldn't picture it, I just had this feeling it's a place worth checking out! And now, after seeing on your pics how lovely it looks, I think it's the time to book a flight there soon!
