There are so many campsites in North Wales so I’ve rounded up 10 of the best North Wales Campsites for you to choose from. I often find it difficult to find campsites because many of the best hidden gems are family-run sites with small websites that aren’t always easy to find online, especially if you’re looking while in a different country as you might not have access to websites.
Travel Hack Tip: To solve this issue you should know how to change location on iPhone in order to gain access to websites.
I’ve lived in North Wales all of my life and I’ve spent years exploring this gorgeous area and I’ve got 9 of the best campsites in North Wales to share with you today!
North Wales is a popular area for camping, caravans and campervans. I’ve done lots of all three and the dream setup is a high tent (one you can stand up in) and a small campervan. A campervan is good for sleeping but it’s even better for days out, especially if you’re outdoors on hiking trips or at the beach. It gives you a space to get changed, relax, prepare food and hot drinks, a table for lunch and a place to hide from the weather (whether it’s very hot or very cold!) A day van with a gas hob, small fridge, a bed and lots of storage is especially brilliant if you’ve got young children! My dream is to do a campervan conversion one day and design the interior for our busy family!
The top 9 North Wales campsites
Location: Nant gwynant
Key features: Lakeside camping at the foot of Snowdon
At the top of the list is Llyn Gwynant Campsite, a stunning lakeside site in the heart of Snowdonia. It’s a short walk from the foot of Snowdon so it’s a great place to stay if you’re hiking up Snowdon. The lake is a popular spot for watersports like kayaks, paddleboards, canoes and rafts, all of which are available to hire. You can also join in with lakeside yoga sessions or yoga SUP sessions too!
You can add a little luxury to your camping trip as bell tents are available to hire.
This is one of the busiest campsites in North Wales so you do need to book online and I recommend getting your booking in early for bank holidays and school holidays.
Location: Beddgelert
Key Features: Beautiful woodland setting
This forest campsite in Beddgelert is one of my favourite campsites in North Wales thanks to the magical forest vibes. The site is now joined with Forest Holidays, who offer luxury log cabins in the forest, but there are still 26 grass camping pitches and 59 hard-standing pitches and I personally don’t feel the log cabins alter the atmosphere of the site. There’s an onsite ‘Bake House’ which is great for breakfasts as well as pizzas, burgers and curries. You’ll also find 1085 Adventures onsite who offer guided adventures and bike hire.

Location: Llyn Peninsula
Key Features: Direct access to the Welsh Coastal Path
If you like the idea of camping in a wild flower meadow next to an abundant kitchen garden and just a short stroll from the sea then Bert’s Kitchen Garden is the North Wales campsite for you!
This campsite is a place to escape, reconnect with nature, put your phone down and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the Llyn Peninsula. Aswell as 18 tent pitches, they also have space for campervans, two glamping tents, Otto the Schoolie and Hank the converted camper.
Location: Llyn Peninsula
Key Features: The most incredible beach
Port Iago is possibly my favourite beach in all of Wales. This tiny hidden cove is small but oh so perfect and, whenever I’ve visited, it’s been surprisingly quiet. This is a dreamy place to camp is accessed via a farm – so there can be a moment of, ‘Am I meant to be here!?’ but it’s OK, you’re in the right place!

Location: Llyn Peninsula
Key Features: Beach side camping
Treheli Farm Campsite in North Wales is the most idyllic, cliff top campsite perched perfectly over Porth Neigwl/Hell’s Mouth. The beautiful beach is the most incredible backdrop for camping. It’s an intentionally simple campsite with no electricity or wifi but with a beach like this on your doorstep, what more do you need?
To get there, and actually to get to all of these campsites in Wales, you do need a car. If you don’t have one or you’re travelling from abroad you could rent a car at Liverpool airport which is the closest one.
Location: Llyn Peninsula
Key Features: Beach side camping
OK, it’s another beachside campsite in North Wales on the Llyn Peninsula and I might be a bit biased but this really is the most gorgeous and most underrated area of Wales. It’s another simple site on a cliff top looking out over a long, sandy beach. There is electric hook up here and there’s also a holiday cottage to let.
Location: Aberdovey
Key Features: Incredible location + individual firepits
Smuggler’s Cove is situated opposite an RSPB bird reserve and it’s also been the filming spot for BBC’s Springwatch thanks to the abundance of bird life. There are just three pitches on the edge of the Dyfi Estuary so you’ve got to book them well in advance to get this sought after campsite in North Wales! Each pitch is very private and comes with an individual firepit which is a nice addition as many campsites no longer allow fires.
Location: Llanbedr
Key Features: Riverside camping next to a waterfall!
This beautiful North Wales campsite is one of the larger sites on my list, so the facilities are plentiful and there’s a lovely, family atmosphere. Not only that but each pitch is just a short stroll from the river and waterfalls! You’ll fall asleep to the gentle shush of the river and you can go for a refreshing dip each morning! Kids will love the rope swings that will fly them into the water and parents will love the relaxed vibe of the site.
Hawarden Estate Farmshop campsite
Location: Hawarden
Key Features: Luxury farm shop with interesting events
Hawarden Estate offers an entirely different style of camping with their new luxury, family campsite in North Wales. The farmshop has been a popular spot for years, offering not only locally sourced produce but also hosting events, workshops and classes.
Due to popular demand, they have now opened a luxurious campsite where you can pitch your own tent or opt for one of their gorgeous bell tents.
